"Much of life can never be explained but only witnessed." - Rachel Naomi Remen, MD A baby hippopotamus pictured above survived the tsunami waves that swept the Kenyan coast swimming on the back of a one hundred year old tortoise. The hippo, named Owen, has accepted the tortoise, a male, as mother. "It is incredible. A-less-than- a-year-old hippo has adopted as a parent a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to be very happy with being a mother," ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park, told AFP. | |||
